MA-23 Bloody Devil MS
Initial Release: Mid-Winter 2005, Starter MA-23 (Grey).
Additional Releases: None.
Bit Protector - "Large Type"
Should be noted that BP Size Type on initial release is not consistent for every cycle of production or re-release. Being reproduced the following year could mean a different BP Size Type for a given Beyblade. In Bloody Devil MS' case, it is unlikely it is anything but Large Type, since HMS wasn't in production long enough after its initial release to be re-released.
Attack Ring (AR)
Devil Crusher, ~20g.
Shares the same Metal Frame with Phantom Fox's Upper Fox and Dragoon MF's Upper Dragon. To seem them all side-by-side feel free to check out the Attack Ring Variations page.
Despite being the penultimate release of HMS, Takara decided to not reinvent the wheel with the AR, instead giving it a fairly middle of the road Metal Frame, but littering the design with so much plastic that is feels nearly inert.
Compared to Upper Fox and Upper Dragon, Devil Crusher feels significantly less impactful. It has much the same recoil, but without the same raw Smash Attack power to justify it, thanks to the plastic devil faces getting in the way.
Since it still retains that level of recoil, Devil Crusher isn't quite suitable for Defense or Stamina at all, putting it in a very awkward spot competitively. It isn't particularly bad as an Attack AR, but it feels noticeably weaker than its Metal Frame brothers, and just like them it will suffer against staunch Defense combos.
It is just another middling Attack AR, unfortunately, with no redeeming qualities in Defense or Stamina due to its recoil and suboptimal weight distribution, but does at least take the cake for being the most interesting to look at of the three.
Best Possible Combo:
AR: Devil Crusher (Right-Spin)
WD: CWD Defense Ring (with Metal CWD found in RBA2)
RC: Grip Flat Core (Ultimate Version)
Game Plan: Just like the setups using the different versions of this Metal Frame, your goal is to flower pattern and land a knockout with Devil Crusher. It isn't impossible by any means, but it does tend to feel a bit easier with the other two options, yet they aren't quite as stylish.
Weight Disk (WD)
CWD Devil Saucer, ~17g.
Free-spinning aggressive CWD design that features eight prominent points of contact.
Had it been stationary Devil Saucer may have saw some niche use, perhaps similar to CWD Free Defense Ring and its ability to knock around God Ring and Reverse Defenser.
In reality, it simply does more harm than good. It doesn't produce enough recoil to be particularly useful against Defense types, and more often than not it is most likely to cause significant losses in RPM for your combo instead of the opponent, making it useless outside of Attack too.
Best Possible Combo:
AR: Circle Upper (Right-Spin)
WD: CWD Devil Saucer (with Metal CWD found in RBA2)
RC: Grip Flat Core (Ultimate Version)
Game Plan: Rely on Circle Upper landing a decisive hit on your opponent before Devil Saucer gets in the way at lower RPMs. Sliding/Catapult or Banking is of course absolutely necessary to your success.
Running Core (RC)
Shooter Change Core Alpha, ~5g.
Shares a very similar design to Shooter Change Core Gamma, for more information on these two you can read on at the Running Core Variations page.
Very unique RC to wind down the HMS series, Alpha and Gamma are visually most similar to Bunshin Core without the ability to detach, and in practicality most similar to Battle Change Core with the ability to change tip modes but also easily change WD options.
Instead of having the Weight Disk in the middle of the Beyblade, SCC Alpha lets you put the Weight Disk a lot lower than normally possible.
Alpha in particular lets you change modes between Hole-Flat and Semi-Flat, a simple twisting motion is enough to do it.
It sounds very interesting, but in competitive play this gimmick is largely useless. Using a thicker CWD on this RC leads to scraping when knocked around, regardless of what mode your RC is in.
Because the tip is made out of plastic it is very easy to knock out, and the propensity for scraping does it no favours on that front either, considering it may get outright out-spun if it does manage to stay in the stadium.
Best Possible Combo:
AR: Samurai Upper (Right-Spin)
WD: CWD Defense Ring (with Metal CWD found in RBA2)
RC: Shooter Change Core Alpha (Hole-Flat Mode)
Game Plan: As incredibly unreliable as SCC Alpha is, it can be decently violent for the time it is in the stadium. For this reason, your best bet is to slap on Samurai Upper and hope it can secure a knock-out in SCC Alpha's inevitable frenzy across the stadium. Tornado Stalling is perfectly fine here. If you're against a docile Stamina or Defense type, consider trying to get an initial flower pattern if possible. Given it is a plastic tip, it won't hold the pattern for very long, but the first few hits are crucial if you can land them.
