MA-01 Dragoon MSUV
Initial Release: Mid-Winter 2003, Starter MA-01 (White)
Additional Releases: Random Booster ACT 2 (Light Green), 5 Saint Beasts Booster (Proto-Grey), Tournament Recolour (G1 Bronze)
Bit Protector - "Small Type"
Should be noted that BP Size Type on initial release is not consistent for every cycle of production or re-release. Being reproduced the following year could mean a different BP Size Type for a given Beyblade.
Attack Ring (AR)
Metal Spiker, ~14g.
If anyone was hoping that Ultimate Version would be a direct upgrade to the original Dragoon MS in every way, let this AR temper those dreams.
Metal Spiker performs identically to Metal Attacker, maintains the same weight, and all it really has to show for its upgrades is a new stickers, a slightly spikier Metal Frame and a Dragon's head.
Falls short in all the same areas Metal Attacker does, it is simply not aggressive enough nor hefty enough to be used for just about anything competitively, it simply cannot keep up with other AR options
If you must use this AR, you are probably going to have the best luck using it in a docile Defense combo instead of an Attack-oriented setup that will leave you feeling disappointed.
Best Possible Combo:
AR: Metal Spiker (Right-Spin)
WD: CWD God Ring (with Metal CWD found in RBA2)
RC: Bearing Core 2
Game Plan: Stay in the stadium, plain and simple. Left spin is not ideal for Metal Spiker in a Defense set up as it has just a touch more recoil to it thanks to the pointed metal jutting out. This combo will have the best luck facing Attack types, by far, as it will get trounced by most any Bearing Core based Stamina combos, and that isn't Metal Spiker's fault, but the nature of BC2 vs. BC. It would likely not be advisable to launch aggressively with this combo as staying at the center of the stadium puts you in the safest position, as far as possible from any stadium exits.
Weight Disk (WD)
Circle Wide
See the Common Weight Disks page.
Running Core (RC)
Grip Flat Core (Ultimate Version), ~1g.
This RC is sole reason to ever consider buying Dragoon MSUV from a competitive standpoint.
By far the fastest, most aggressive, and responsive rubber RC in HMS and the series as whole. It may very well be the best rubber-based Attack component in all of Beyblade.
It was estimated to be anywhere between 120%-150% faster than the original Grip Flat Core when these were first released. While I haven't found a way to accurately measure this myself, it is evident it is significantly faster than a regular Grip Flat Core, mint or otherwise.
Is the same low-profile height as Grip Flat Core, which is a good thing for certain ARs that have ramps and want to use them. Of which there are many in HMS.
Singlehandedly brings Jiraiya Blade and Metal Upper into the fold of competitive Attack combos. With its speed these two ARs are actually quite good, and deserve praise they would otherwise not receive.
So powerful on its own that it raises up even the most mediocre AR's a fair bit, to the point that assessing them on GFC gives you no bearing on how well it will do on GFCUV, it is just that much better at tapping into potential.
For some, this additional speed at the cost of control (in stadiums with weaker Tornado Ridges), isn't worth it. For many, including die-hard Attack specialists, this RC is the undisputed king of Attack, and if you don't have one, you're missing out.
Feel free to have a slightly more in-depth look at how Ultimate Version compares to its predecessor on the Running Core Variations page, because there are some very key differences beyond looks.
Best Possible Combo:
AR: Samurai Upper (Right-Spin)
WD: CWD Defense Ring (with Metal CWD found in RBA2)
RC: Grip Flat Core (Ultimate Version)
Game Plan: This is the best Attack combo in all of HMS, your mission is clear: knock out anything and everything that enters the stadium. This combo, and its slight variations, are what make HMS such a fun series. With enough skill and launch precision there is nothing it cannot overcome. Advance Striker is also an acceptable AR choice, as it is similar in power to both Circle Upper and Samurai Upper.
